You Said It, Aug. 15, 2010

I will vote for anyone, regardless of party affiliation, if they will pledge to introduce and vote for time limits on campaigns. How about six months for regular and three months for primaries? And while you are at it, please abolish robo calls.

I can definitely understand the frustration of the community garden people who worked hard and put their own money into making a nice garden where they expected to harvest vegetables for their use. Then to have someone who didn’t do anything come in and take what didn’t really belong to them. This sort of sounds like the current government philosophy of “spread the wealth.”

The person who wrote in and said we are all not going to be collecting unemployment never looked up the info.  If you made more than $2,000 in the past 3 months, you can collect unemployment. Don’t be scaring people into thinking that the whole area is going to go under. Also, I want to say thanks to all the friends I made at the Census Bureau and will be their friend afterward as well. I won’t forget you.

If you stay in a house you have stopped paying the mortgage on until they “kick” you out, isn’t that theft? Even if the bank has to jump through six months of hoops before they can have you removed, isn’t it more ethical to move and not steal? These are the people who are teaching their kids that it’s OK not to pay bills, so we’ll be dealing with the offspring of these unethical people for years to come.

For the person in the gray Jeep on Patterson Road Monday: It would be nice if you put your cell phone in your purse and not in your ear, as you almost sideswiped me. This could have been another senseless accident.

Thank you, Dr. Don Pacini, for expressing your concerns on medical marijuana at the recent City Council forum. There has been a deafening silence on this subject from the Grand Junction medical community.

John Boehner wants to raise the Social Security age to 70 to salvage the system. Instead, he and his colleagues in Congress should give up the retirements and other benefits they voted for themselves that they don’t deserve. Use that money for Social Security.

To all you people who go out to eat: There are single mothers and fathers who live off the money that we make off of serving you. Just know that your $2 is not a good tip but an insult to our good service. Keep it if you need it more than we do!

Congratulations to the Grand Junction Regional Airport and the landscaping crew/maintenance for putting together a beautiful landscape design. I have gone in and out of that airport three or four times a month for the last three years, and this year I have noticed the lovely plants, scrubs and trees being planted all around the terminal as well as the parking lot. It brings a little life to the desert-like conditions of Grand Junction.
