Zombie Prom aids community radio
Get out the corn syrup and red food coloring because it’s time to make fake blood.
The second Zombie Prom begins at 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 1, and lasts all night. The event is a fundraiser for KAFM Community Radio.
Prom-goers take note: The event has moved from 601 Pitkin Ave. to Mesa Theater and Club, 538 Main St.
The change in venue means no open bar, but Mesa Theater’s bar will be serving for this 21-and-older event.
Eight DJs will spin music at the prom, which will feature two rooms: a ballroom with up-tempo music and a quieter Chill Room.
Costumes are strongly encouraged. A contest will be held to crown prom royalty. And new this year, the king and queen will have one dance together.
In addition to live music and a costume contest, there will be fire performances by The Sol Weavers. Photographer Peggy Rose will take photos, which will be available to purchase for a donation.
Tickets to Zombie Prom are $10 in advance and at the door. Advance tickets can be purchased at The Raw Canvas Custom Tattoo Studio and Gallery, 755 Rood Ave.; Planet Earth & the 4 Directions Gallery, 524 Colorado Ave.; Mad Margaret’s, 807 N. First St.; and at http://www.kafmradio.org.
As part of Zombie Prom, The Raw Canvas and Planet Earth both have events scheduled for Friday.
The Raw Canvas has its “Xposed” show, and Planet Earth hosts an “Art for Ecuador” fundraiser for the nonprofit Sustainable Roots.
Both galleries will be stops on a Zombie Prom bicycle ride set up through GJ Junk Ride. The ride ends at Zombie Prom. All interested zombie cyclists should meet at 7 p.m. at the Community Garden at 10th and Main streets.
Bicycle riders are reminded to come in costume and with lights for their bikes.
