2-day Tour of the Valley appeals to road and mountain bikers
Cyclists of all abilities can partake of the diverse scenic beauty of the Grand Valley during the two-day Tour of the Valley.
The event for both road and mountain bikers begins and ends Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 28–29, at the DoubleTree Hotel, 743 Horizon Drive.
Saturday starts with check-in from 7–8 a.m. for both the road and mountain bike rides. A group start is at 8 a.m.
That evening is a screening of “A Race Across the Sky” at the Avalon Theatre. The film is about the Leadville Trail 100 Mountain Bike Race and the thousands of cyclists who ride that race. Doors open for the screening at 6 p.m. The show starts at 7 p.m.
Sunday, riders can choose from 20-, 50-, 75- and 100-mile routes. Check-in and breakfast are from 6–8:30 a.m. with post-ride activities starting at 11 a.m.
The post-ride party offers a meal, music, beverages and snacks on the terrace at the DoubleTree Hotel. There will be drawings for prizes from 1–3 p.m.
The ride brings cyclists from across the United States and benefits Community Hospital’s outreach activities promoting healthy eating and lifestyles for area youth. The Tour also supports the Mesa State College Cycling Team and the Neil Bradford scholarship fund at the college.
