3 fire stations respond to out-of-control burn

Firefighting crews from around the Grand Valley were called to extinguish a controlled burn that raged out of control in Clifton.

The blaze started on land south of 3447 Grand Valley Canal Drive and burned down to the Colorado River. Police radio reports indicated several homes were threatened by the fire, but firefighters kept the flames from reaching them.

Firefighters from Clifton, Palisade and Grand Junction responded to the blaze. Firefighters stayed at the scene late Saturday to extinguish hot spots, said Paul Frey of the Clifton Fire Department.

The Mesa County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the fire, Frey said.
