Arkansas River featured Thursday at TU meeting
If you have never witnessed the caddis hatch on the Arkansas River, you need to put the event on your calendar. It is an amazing sight to see huge clouds of caddis swarming, not just on the river, but all over the Arkansas Valley.
Greg Felt, co-owner and guide-service manager for ArkAnglers in Salida, has worked as a guide and outfitter on the Arkansas River since 1985.
He will be sharing his knowledge and experience on the Arkansas River at Thursday’s meeting of the Grand Valley Anglers Chapter of Trout Unlimited and Federation of Fly Fishers.
The meeting is at the Holiday Inn, 2751 Crossroads Blvd. Dinner is at 5:30 p.m., followed by a business meeting and the program.
In addition to overseeing the experience of some 2,500 fishing guest each season, Felt also devotes considerable time to state and local natural resource issues, including the Upper Arkansas Water Conservancy District, and the Colorado division of the Trust for Public Land.
His talk Thursday will address spring fishing on the Arkansas River as well details of the blue-wing olive mayfly hatch, the caddis emergence and several sub-surface events that occur prior to runoff on the Arkansas. In addition, he will talk about the hydrology of the river and projections for flows this spring.
Felt can be reached at ArkAnglers, LLC, 7500 W. U.S. Highway 50, Salida, Co. 81201. Phone: 719-539-4223.
