At 101 degrees, Sunday’s heat ties Junction record

A high temperature measured at 101 degrees Sunday tied Grand Junction’s all-time record for June 6, according to the National Weather Service in Grand Junction.

The 101 reading, which came at 4:36 p.m. near Grand Junction Regional Airport, tied a mark for the day set in 2006, according to Becky Klenk, a technician with the weather service office.

Sunday’s first triple-digit day for 2010 may not be the last for the upcoming week, Klenk said.

Temperatures in the Grand Valley are expected to hover between 95 and 100 degrees through Wednesday, while cloud cover expected to arrive Thursday should drop the mercury back into the 80s, she said. By Saturday, temperatures could be in the 70s.

The average temperature for June 6 is 84 degrees.
