Traffic restricted during Rim Rock Run

• Rim Rock Drive through Colorado National Monument will be limited to west-to-east one-way traffic during Saturday’s Rim Rock Run.
The one-way pattern includes bicycles and will be enforced from 7:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. Visitors to the monument may enter at the Fruita entrance.
The run begins at 8 a.m. at the monument’s east entrance. Any traffic headed from Grand Junction to Glade Park should use Little Park Road from 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. Information: 858-3617.

Flu shots given at some voting locations

• Garfield County Public Health is offering “Vote & Vax” flu shot clinics today at polling locations across the county and Rifle City Hall.
The clinics are designed to practice the county’s ability to vaccinate a large number of people in an emergency. It also is open to people not voting today.
The cost is $20 for adults and $10 for children.
Shots will be provided from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Carbondale Recreation Center, the Glenwood Springs Community Center, Rifle City Hall and the Battlement Mesa Activity Center. They will be offered from 7 a.m. to noon at the New Castle Community Center and from 1 to 7 p.m. at the Silt Fire Station.

Library’s draft budget now available

• The Mesa County Public Library District has released its 2009 draft budget for public review and comment. The document is available online at

LDS Employment Center plans seminar

• The Grand Junction Area LDS Employment Center will host a scholarships, grants and student loans seminar at 7 p.m. Thursday at the LDS Chapel, 2542 G Road. Presenters will include Curt Martin, director of financial aid at Mesa State College, Jeffrey Recker, vice president of student banking at U.S. Bank, and Steve Gunderson, president of Western Colorado Region of U.S. Bank. Francese Art Show and Sale scheduled

• The Frank Francese Art Show and Sale is scheduled from 5 to
8 p.m. Nov. 28 and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 29 at the Library of the Western Colorado Botanical Gardens on Riverside Parkway. Locals can enjoy the “splash of color sale” of unmatted and unframed originals. Refreshments will be served.

MS Society seeks scholarship applicants

•    Applications are being accepted for the 2009 National Multiple Sclerosis Society scholarships. Qualified high school seniors, graduates and GED earners with MS or who have a parent with MS may apply. Scholarship amounts are $1,000 to $3,000.

Orders taken for seedling trees, shrubs

• The Mount Sopris, Bookcliff and South Side Conservation Districts are taking orders for its seedling trees and shrubs. Area residents may order up to 35 different seedlings for delivery in April. Go to or call 945-5494.

Comments needed on recreation permits

• The Grand Junction Field Office of the Bureau of Land Management is soliciting public comment on 19 Special Recreation Permit applications for commercial activities on public lands.
Activities include bike tours, rock climbing classes, guided big-game hunts and motorcycle trail events. Permits are required of anyone doing commercial, competitive or organized events on BLM public lands. Of the 19 applications, nine are new proposals. All may be viewed at the Grand Junction Field Office, 2815 H Road.
