Special archery hunts offered by DOW

• Several limited-access archery hunts for deer are being offered this fall by the Colorado Division of Wildlife on three state wildlife areas around Grand Junction.
The hunts will be on lands owned by the DOW, the Bureau of Reclamation and the Western Colorado Wildlife Habitat Association.
Special access permits will be available by application to hunters possessing a valid archery deer license in game management unit 40 (Grand Junction Wildlife Area) or unit 41 (the Tilman Bishop and Orchard Mesa state wildlife areas).
Two additional hunts will be held during the regular rifle season for hunters possessing valid rifle deer tags in the proper unit. However, the hunters must use archery equipment when hunting on the wildlife areas.
Applications for the hunts must be received by 5 p.m. Aug. 14 at the DOW Northwest Region Office, 711 Independent Ave. A random drawing for the access permits will be Aug. 17.
Only one hunter per week will be allowed on each property.
Applications and hunting rule are available at the Northwest Region office.
