Carbondale police impersonator steals $20 from boy, 13

CARBONDALE — Authorities in western Colorado say a man impersonating a police officer stole $20 from a 13-year-old boy.

The Aspen Daily News reported Friday ( ) the man was driving a car with “Police” written on the side when he approached the boy on Tuesday in Carbondale, 25 miles northwest of Aspen.

Authorities say the man told the boy he shouldn’t be riding his bike on the street while playing music and demanded $20, which the boy gave him.

Authorities say they don’t believe the incident is related to two other reports of police impersonation in Aspen this week.

A man identifying himself as an officer called two people and demanded they provide their credit card numbers to pay court costs or be arrested.

It’s not clear if the intended victims complied.
