Changes to boat launching inspections, hours to begin
As summer ends in the high country and fewer boaters are using the facilities, officials at Curecanti National Recreation Area and Blue Mesa Reservoir have announced changes in the reservoir’s boat launching and watercraft inspections hours.
Beginning Tuesday, the Lake Fork and Elk Creek ramps/inspection stations will be open from 6:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. daily through September 30th.
Boat launching at the Iola ramp will be available by appointment only on a “call-in basis” Monday-Thursday from 6:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
The ramp will be gated, so boaters should expect a 15-20 minute response time in order for the inspector to arrive.
Entrance and exit inspections are required for all boats entering Blue Mesa Reservoir.
Boaters are encouraged to call the AIS mussel phone (970-209-2335) prior to leaving home in order to have an inspector on-site when boaters arrive.
On Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, the Iola ramp will be staffed from 6:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. throughout September; no appointment is necessary on the weekends.
