City leaf pickup starts

Not sure what to do with all those leaves in your yard?

The city of Grand Junction can help.

City crews will pick up leaves from homes within city limits starting Monday and continuing until mid-December.

The annual Leaf Pick-up program is one of the city’s most popular services. It ensures fallen leaves don’t clog storm drains and end up in the river. And the collected leaves are recycled at the Mesa County Organic Composting Facility adjacent to the landfill on U.S. Highway 50.

Kristin Winn, spokeswoman for the city’s Public Works and Planning Department, said residents are asked to rake their leaves into the street 18 inches out from the gutters or to the edge of the street where there are no gutters.

Crews will not pick up bagged leaves, tree limbs, logs, brush, garden trimmings, wood, rock, bricks, concrete or metal.
