Commission to address permit changes

The Colorado Parks and Wildlife Commission meets Thursday and Friday at the CPW Hunter Education Building, 606 Broadway, in Denver.

Agenda items include a financial update from Parks and Wildlife financial officer Steve Cassin; proposed changes to state park permits and passes; and an update on the Western Slope mule deer management strategy.

There also is a proposal to allow spring turkey hunters holding a limited license for game management unit 30 to access Skipper’s Island on the Horsethief Canyon State Wildlife Area.

Hunter Education course set for Meeker: Parks and Wildlife is planning a Hunter Education course March 8-9 at the Meeker Recreation Center.

Because space is limited, pre-register by calling 970-878-3403. Anyone planning to purchase a hunting license in Colorado must take and pass an approved hunter education course.

Colorado and many other states have reciprocal agreements about accepting each other’s hunter education classes and although there is no age limit, younger pupils must be able to read and understand the material as well as safely handle a firearm.

When: March 8-9. Students must attend both days.
