Deer gores hunter in leg near New Castle

A member of a hunting party became the hunted Thursday when a deer gored him in the leg.

The man was treated for his injuries and released from a hospital after being gored north of New Castle, according to Colorado Division of Wildlife spokesman Randy Hampton.

“Other things came to light” during an investigation of the incident, and Hampton said the Division of Wildlife has opened a separate investigation involving those findings.

The name of the injured man and those in his hunting party will not be released unless a ticket is written regarding the ongoing investigation, Hampton said.

He said he could not discuss the investigation at this time.
