Enjoy a free day of fun at one of Colorado’s state parks

An angler tries his luck in the catch-and-release waters of the Uncompahgre River below Ridgway Dam at Ridgway State Park. Entrance fees to all 42 Colorado state parks will be waived Monday, Colorado Day.

Take a free pass Monday to Colorado State Parks.

Aug. 6 is the 136th anniversary of President Ulysses S. Grant admitting Colorado to statehood, and in honor of that, entrance fees to all state parks are being waived.

No, you won’t get a rebate on your annual pass and you’ll still have to pay for camping and reservations, but there are 42 parks to choose from, so surely you’ll find that special place.

If you should see the ghost of old U.S. Grant wandering about, give him my thanks, too.

WHAT: Free admission at all Colorado state parks

WHEN: Monday, Colorado’s anniversary of statehood.

WHERE: There are 42 state parks, from the high mountains to the Eastern Plains. Don’t be shy.

INFORMATION: Check out the state parks website, http://parks.state.co.us.
