Feasting on leftovers – 20,000 tags still available
When you’re hungry, leftovers may be the best option you have.
Particularly when it comes to big-game hunting licenses.
Hunters with an appetite for a 2014 hunting license still can take advantage of the estimated 20,000 leftover big-game and turkey licenses available, officials from Colorado Parks and Wildlife said.
These licenses include pronghorn, elk, bear, deer and turkey licenses as well as over-the-counter elk tags.
With more than 23 million acres of public lands, “Colorado remains a hunting destination,” said Matt Robbins, public information officer with Parks and Wildlife. “One of the best features of hunting in Colorado is the unlimited number of over-the-counter elk licenses available in addition to the opportunity to hunt in some of the most scenic areas in the country.”
Hunters can obtain a list of available leftover licenses at the nearest Parks and Wildlife office, any license agent or online at cpw.state.co.us.
The Parks and Wildlife website offers a variety of information, including access to hunting brochures, regional hunt guides and links to the popular “Elk Hunting University,” which starts with the license purchasing process and goes on to offer tips on how to hunt elk.
Robinson also emphasized the importance of hunting safely and offered a few tips, including dressing for the elements, carrying survival supplies, water, hunting with a buddy and letting someone know about your plans.
