Gene Taylor’s splits DH vs. Rocky Mtn., now 15-15
Zach Lebsock, Stephen Baldwin and Owen Taylor drove in three runs apiece as Gene Taylor’s beat the Rocky Mountain Lobos 16-11 and earned a split in their Colorado American Legion League baseball doubleheader Saturday.
The Lobos won the opener 2-1 at Canyon View Park as both teams were limited to five hits in a game that was scoreless after four innings.
Dillon Fante singled in Gene Taylor’s lone run with two out in the bottom of the seventh, plating Taylor, who hit a pinch-hit double with one out.
Baldwin pitched all seven innings and was tagged with the loss. He struck out nine and walked four.
In the second game, Gene Taylor’s erupted for seven runs in the fourth inning and seven more in the sixth, making a winner of starting pitcher Josh Moore, who worked the first five innings. Walker Williams pitched the final two frames and earned a save.
Taylor hit a two-run single, Lebsock added a two-run single and Baldwin doubled in a run in the fourth-inning outburst.
Tyler Gastineau hit a two-run double in the seventh, while Taylor tripled in a run, and Cole Cummins and Drew Bridges each doubled in a run. Bridges double was his second of the inning and third of the game. He also walked twice, including an intentional walk.
Cummins, Baldwin, Brett Labonte and Taylor had two hits apiece as Gene Taylor’s rapped 14 in the contest.
Gene Taylor’s improved to 2-4 in the league, 15-15 overall.
Legion B District Tourney
Palisade 1 will play Steamboat in the championship game of the Legion B District Tournament at 9 a.m. today at Palisade High School.
After Palisade 1 beat Steamboat on Saturday, Steamboat beat Eagle Valley in an elimination game.
The top three teams in the district tourney advance to the state tournament in Summit County.
