GJ Lions top $4 million in donations

FROM LEFT IN THE FOREGROUND, Denise Richardson, Reford Theobold and Karl Clemons of the Grand Junction Lions Club announce the club’s grants to 19 local nonprofit groups Monday morning at Dinosaur Journey in Fruita. The funds will be disbursed after the club’s carnival in February.

The annual season of fundraising and giving by the Grand Junction Lions Club is even more notable this year, as the charitable civic group topped the $4 million mark in giving to the Grand Junction community.

Officials with the area Lion’s Club announced the benchmark Monday morning, in presenting the names of the 19 nonprofit beneficiaries that will receive more than $135,000 in grants this year.

Also notable this year is the fact that the upcoming Lion’s Club Carnival and Parade will be the group’s 80th, which is set for Feb. 21.

Tickets for the fundraising raffle go on sale today, and are available until the date of the carnival and parade from any local Lion’s Club member.

All the grant funds announced Monday will begin to be disbursed after the February carnival and will continue to be given out through the end of the year.
