Grand Junction loses bid for Pro Cycling Challenge

Grand Junction will not be hosting a stage for the 2012 USA Pro Cycling Challenge.

A press release sent today by the Montrose Association of Commerce & Tourism listed the seven stages, none of which includes a trip through Grand Junction. Montrose will be the start of Stage 2, which runs from Montrose to Mt. Crested Butte. The seven-stage race begins Aug. 20 in Durango and races to Telluride. The sixth stage is from Golden to Boulder, with a time trial wrapping up the event in Denver on Aug. 26.

The official announcement of stages is Tuesday.
