Grand Junction woman killed in Montrose County crash

The Colorado State Patrol is investigating a crash in Montrose County reported early Thursday that killed a Grand Junction woman.

Barbara Lampreda, 48, was found restrained in a seat belt, behind the wheel of a 1995 Chevrolet Prizm flipped on its roof and in an irrigation ditch around the 66500 block of Uncompahgre Road, roughly a half-mile east of U.S. Highway 550, according to the State Patrol and Montrose County Coroner’s Office.

Lampreda drowned, the coroner said.

The State Patrol was notified at 7:26 a.m. Thursday, but State Trooper Josh Lewis said it wasn’t immediately clear how long the vehicle had been in the ditch. Investigation showed the vehicle was eastbound when it veered off the right side of the road, hit a guardrail and rolled into the ditch before coming to a rest on its roof, according to Lewis.

Speed has been ruled out as a contributing factor, but investigators are waiting on the results of a toxicology report from an autopsy, Lewis said.
