Nominate top caregiver before Aug. 14

Mesa County Department of Human Services will award Caregiver of the Year to a “direct caregiver” who provides outstanding care to an adult with disabilities or an elderly individual.

Family members, friends, neighbors and professional caregivers are eligible.

The person selected will be honored with a gift and a certificate of appreciation at a ceremony during the annual Caregivers Toolbox Conference on Aug. 21.

Two Rivers Center to have meditation

Free seminar explores sleep apnea

Good Samaritan Clinic needs new home


Good Samaritan Clinic, a free monthly clinic that offers a variety of medical services at no charge, is looking for a new home, clinic Director Allison Blevins said.

The clinic must move from its current location at 536 Ouray St. To continue its work, the clinic will need a central, downtown location with storage, four exam rooms, one or more offices, multiple bathrooms, a kitchen, reception area and waiting room, Blevins said.

The clinic offers basic medical care and exams; prescriptions for non-controlled substances; mental health consultations, screenings and referrals; and, treatment for specialized needs like physical therapy, speech therapy, vision screening and reading glasses.

Tuition help available for aide classes


A six-week class starting Sept. 9 will teach skills needed to become a certified nurse’s aide. Tuition reimbursement for the $945 class may be available to qualified people who contact the Mesa County Workforce Center, 2897 North Ave., 970-434-5474.
