Its official, Paonia is the 2013 state wrestling champion

The Paonia High School Eagles claimed their second straight and their fourth overall Class 2A state wrestling championship tonight.

Of the 13 state qualifiers the Eagles took to the Colorado State Wrestling Championships, 11 brought home at least a top six medal. They were led by freshman two-time state champion Jesse Reed and state runner-ups Bo Pipher, a freshman and Tony Darling

Coach Andy Pipher now has four state titles to his credit, including titles in 2006, 2009, 2012 and tonight’s accomplishment.

The Eagles easily outdistanced second place Highland, 205.5 to 148. Meeker finished eighth with 58.5 points and was led by freshman state champion T.J. Shelton.
The future looks bright for the Eagles. Of the 13 who qualified this year, only four are seniors.
