Kidd places second in 1,500 freestyle
Taylor Kidd faced the best swimmers in the state in her home pool during the Colorado State Long Course championships and didn’t blink.
After placing sixth in the 100-meter freestyle on Saturday, Kidd swam in the finals of the 1,500 freestyle on Sunday.
She was one of two swimmers to dominate the race. Kidd placed second in 18 minutes, 47.45 seconds, less than two seconds behind Loveland’s Sydney Miller. The rest of the pack was nearly 30 seconds behind the leaders.
Kidd’s entry time of 19:16.95 had her seeded fourth in the finals, but she dropped 29.5 seconds off that time in the finals at El Pomar Natatorium.
The 1,500 was the most successful of Kidd’s five meet finals. She placed fourth in the 400 free, sixth in the 200 and 100 free and 16th in the 100 butterfly.
She scored 59 of Maverick Aquatics’ 60 points, which tied the club for 35th in the 50-team meet.
Shane Haberkorn scored the other team point by placing 16th Sunday in the boys 15-over 1,500-meter freestyle.
Haberkorn, one of nine 15-year-olds in the race, finished in 19 minutes, 32.72 seconds. Dan Notarianni, 19, of Foothills Swim Team won the race in 16:47.13. Elias Carlson, 15, of Delta, placed 17th in 19:44.88.

The Montrose Marlins got a handful of top swims to place 25th with 131 points.
Michael Baronsky of Montrose placed fifth in the boys 15-over 100 breaststroke (1:09.87) and ninth in the 200 breast (2:38.79) and 50 free (25.74).
