Laramie plans 95-well plan near Rifle

Laramie Energy II has proposed a drilling plan for up to 95 wells about nine miles south of Rifle over the next five or six years.

The U.S. Bureau of Land Management is accepting public comments on the plan.

The wells would be developed from three new and two existing pads, but up to 71 would be drilled directionally into federally owned minerals. The project area’s 983 acres include 660 acres of federal land.

Primary access for the gas development would be on Garfield County Road 319 and Forest Service Road 818.

Details on the project can be found at http://www.blm.gov/co/st/en/fo/gsfo/GSFO_MasterPlansOfDevelopment.html under “West Mamm Proposed Action.”

Laramie plans to truck some water produced during gas development to an approved disposal facility. The two anticipated sites are RNI (Dalbo) in Rangely and Danish Flats in Utah.

Laramie is exploring avenues for a centralized water-disposal facility in the area and is installing pipelines for gathering water in anticipation of that, but it has yet to identify an efficient method of centralized disposal, its plan says.

The company plans to recycle some produced water for use in drilling and well-completion operations, or convert it to fresh water through a distillation system, so it can be used locally for dust suppression, irrigation or wildlife ponds.

Such discharges require a state permit, plus a BLM permit for BLM lands. The BLM will prepare an environmental assessment of the proposal and is asking for public comments by Feb. 20. They may be sent to the Glenwood Springs Field Office at 2300 River Frontage Road, Silt, CO, 81652, or e-mail .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address).
