Limited deer hunts offered soon at local wildlife areas
Deer hunters interested in a unique, close-to-home opportunity can apply for six limited-license, special-access hunts being offered on state wildlife areas along the Colorado River.
The hunts will take place on the Tilman Bishop SWA and the Orchard Mesa and Grand Junction wildlife areas.
The hunts are sponsored by Colorado Parks and Wildlife, the Bureau of Reclamation and the Western Colorado Wildlife Habitat Association.
Three of the hunts will be held during the regular archery season (Aug. 31-Sept. 29) and applicants must already have drawn an archery deer license for game management units 40 or 41.
The other three hunts will occur during the regular rifle hunting seasons.
Any hunter holding a rifle deer license for units 40 or 41 may apply for the second three hunts but only archery equipment will be allowed during the hunt.
Drawing will be held on August 12 at the Parks and Wildlife Northwest Region office. Applications must be received by August 9.
All regular Parks and Wildlife hunting regulations will be enforced, including the wearing of fluorescent orange during the rifle hunting season.
Information and applications forms are available from the Parks and Wildlife NW Region office, 711 Independent Ave., or call 255-6100.
