Loveland Ski Area waiting to making snow

FRISCO — While cities along Colorado’s Front Range are experiencing record-high temperatures, a ski area about 50 miles to the west is trying to bring on winter.

The Loveland Ski Area says it saw the first snowfall of the season last week. Ski area employees tell the Summit Daily News that they took advantage of the cold and revved up the snowmaking equipment.

This week, the ski area’s snowmakers are on standby and employees are waiting for cooler temperatures to return.

Last year, Loveland was the first ski area in North America to open when it started its chairlifts Oct. 7.
