McInnis Canyons documentary wins award

The 35-minute documentary, “Stories from the Land: McInnis Canyons National Conservation Area,” recently received the Award of Merit for Leadership in History from the American Association of State and Local History.

The Museum of Western Colorado and Colorado Canyons Association helped make the documentary. To celebrate, a free movie screening will be at 7 p.m. July 19 at the museum,  462 Ute Ave. A reception also is planned, and people can tour museum exhibits and meet individuals involved in the making of the documentary.

Grand Junction filmmaker Mara Ferris of Gen9 Productions wrote, directed and produced the documentary.
