Memorial Day events in Grand Valley
■ At the Veterans Memorial Cemetery of Western Colorado, 2830 Riverside Parkway, a Memorial Day Ceremony will begin at 10 a.m.
■ A Memorial Day ceremony will take place at 10 a.m. at Elmwood Cemetery, 1175 17 1/4 Road, in Fruita.
■ The Fleet Reserve Association Colorado West Branch 244 and LA FRA Unit 224 will host their annual Wreath Floating Ceremony at 9 a.m. at the Blue Heron Boat Ramp on the Colorado River.
Anyone interested in floating a wreath in memory of a deceased military, firefighter or law enforcement family member is invited to bring the wreath to the ceremony. Natural flower wreaths are recommended.
■ Local Boy Scouts will assist the Grand Junction VA Medical Center in posting the Avenue of Flags today. The scouts put the flags up at 7 a.m. and bring them in at 4 p.m.
■ Grand Junction Memorial Gardens, 2970 North Ave., invites the public to its Memorial Day celebration from 9 a.m. to noon. The Taps Report begins at 11 a.m., and families can add names to be read during Taps. The flag raising is at noon.
■ The Grand Junction Area REALTOR Association is hosting a flag installation and patriotic ceremony beginning at 6:30 a.m. Realtors will be placing 1,000 flags at 18 different sites between Collbran and Fruita. The event will conclude on the steps of the Old Mesa County Courthouse with a short patriotic ceremony beginning at 7:30 a.m.
■ The Historic Whitewater Cemetery gates are open and will remain open for visitation through 6 p.m. The cemetery is on an adobe hill southeast of the town of Whitewater.
