Montrose wins, escapes first round of 4A soccer playoffs

No. 13 seed Montrose defeated No. 20 Pueblo West, 5-0, on Thursday in the first round of the Class 4A state soccer playoffs.

The Indians had been to the first round the prior two seasons, but had not made it to the second round.

Montrose freshman Jose Cervantes had two goals and an assist.

The Indians (10-5-1) will play in the second round at No. 4 Mullen on Saturday. The time is TBD. Mullen (8-5-3) defeated Vista PEAK Prep, 4-0, on Thursday.
