Nibble this: Be sure to attend Grand Mesa Moose Day

Colorado’s newest moose herd will be celebrated Saturday when the Division of Wildlife and U.S. Forest Service host Grand Mesa Moose Day at the Ward Lake Visitor Center.

Twig eaters.

That’s what the Algonquin word “moose” means, an indication of what Colorado’s largest wild mammal loves to nibble.

There are lots of twigs on Grand Mesa, and each year there are more moose. Current estimates put the herd at around 150 animals, which is something to celebrate.

Saturday is Grand Mesa Moose Day, featuring a round of free activities sponsored by the Division of Wildlife and the U.S. Forest Service.

Nibbling twigs is optional.
