Outside briefs, Sept. 16, 2017

Every year as summer begins to fade, the annual autumn color change in Colorado’s high country is a spectacular scene like photo taken near Redstone this week. Powderhorn Mountain Resort will have its annual Color Weekend Sept. 23-24.

Color Weekend Sept. 23-24

Powderhorn Mountain Resort will celebrate its annual Color Weekend on
Sept. 23-24.

The resort will have the chair lift running so visitors can enjoy the changing of the colors. This long-standing tradition at Powderhorn gives visitors the chance to come enjoy the spectacular scenery of fall.

There will also be painting classes offered on the weekend. To reserve a spot in a class, call 970-640-8569.

Downhill mountain biking will also continue through October with the Flat Top Flyer high-speed chair lift running on the weekends.

Birding volunteers needed

The Grand Valley Audubon society is looking for volunteers to work at its bird banding station in Connected Lakes State Park.

Volunteers will assist as professional bird banders weigh, measure and record information about area bird population.

Bird banding begins Monday and continues every weekday morning until Oct. 13.

Volunteers will check nets for migrating birds and help record data.

For information or to volunteer, contact Cary Atwood at catwood814@gmail.com.
