Police: Man’s body recovered under bridge

The Grand Junction Police Department late Wednesday said a man’s body was recovered from the Colorado River near the Fifth Street bridge.

Authorities early on said they didn’t know whether the body was that of a male or female. Police have called the death suspicious because of the positioning of the body and the proximity of several items, which were not specified.

A passerby reported the body, which was in the river under the bridge, around 5:30 p.m.

The body was removed by the Mesa County Coroner’s Office shortly before 10 p.m., police said in a news release.
