Powderhorn sale to Daly, Garts is final
Powderhorn officially became the property of Andy Daly and brothers Ken and Tom Gart on Monday, nearly seven weeks after the trio placed a winning bid for the ski resort.
Daly and his partners agreed at the Aug. 4 auction to pay $1.4 million for the ski resort and undeveloped land below the resort.
The Inn at Wildewood, a few undeveloped sites and a handful of home sites near Powderhorn were also sold at the auction by former owners Steve Bailey and Dean Skalla.
Vail resident Daly was president of Vail Resorts Inc., and the Garts are part of the family that founded retailer Gart Brothers Sporting Goods Co. The owners plan to open the ski resort this winter and are working on improvement plans for the resort, including the possibility of new chairlifts and an improved snow-making system.
Powderhorn’s owners also want to expand the resort’s summer offerings to invite more corporate and social events and are working on a long-term capital improvement plan, according to a news release.
