Pop wow time

Watch hours of Native American dance and drum contests and performances from 1–5 p.m. and again from 7–10 p.m. during the Montrose Indian Nations Pow Wow at Friendship Hall on the Montrose County Fairgrounds, 1001 N. Second St., in Montrose. Tickets at the gate are $5 for adults and $3 for ages children 6–12. Those 5 and younger get in free.

Stay for the dinner break at 5 p.m. to see the Azteca dancers. Food is for sale at the fairgrounds.

Wednesday, Sept. 26

In fashion

North Fork Valley designers, performing artists and filmmakers showcase their work in the fourth annual District 81428 Fashion and Design Show at 8 p.m. at Paradise Theater, 215 Grand Ave, in Paonia. Doors are scheduled to open 45 minutes in advance of the showcase.

This artistic, multi-media show is a popular event in the Paonia area and tickets are limited. Call the theater box office at 970-527-6610 for ticket information and a schedule.

This event is part of the multi-day Mountain Harvest Festival, mountainharvestfestival.org.


Thursday, Sept. 27

Off the waiting list

The wait for author J.K. Rowling’s new book “The Casual Vacancy” is over.

The novel is Rowling’s first release for adults — she authored the insanely popular “Harry Potter” series — and is set in the English town of Pagford, which on the surface seems idyllic, but is actually full of unrest, according to Amazon.com.
