Resort route for inaugural Quiznos bicycle race

DENVER — The inaugural Quiznos Pro Challenge international bicycle race will feature a resort route with 120 cyclists traversing 600 miles through 11 Colorado cities next summer.

The map, stages and format were revealed at a news conference at the Capitol in downtown Denver today. The hosts cities are: Vail, Colorado Springs, Crested Butte, Avon, Gunnison, Breckenridge, Salida, Aspen, Golden, Steamboat Springs and Denver.

The race slated for Aug. 22-28, 2011, was created to revive the legacy of the Colorado-based Coors International Bicycle Classic. Other races are slated for 2012 and ‘13, with different routes and host cities.

Lance Armstrong was instrumental in bringing about the new race and said last summer that it would be similar to the old Coors Classic with a mix of mountain, sprint and downtown stages.
