Rim Rock Drive maintenance work to begin Monday

People planning to take in the grand views of Colorado National Monument through a drive or hike should prepare for some delays for the next month.

The National Park Service will begin road maintenance work Monday that will cover all 26 miles of Rim Rock Drive. The project will include patching, crack sealing, chip sealing, micro-surfacing and striping.

The work will occur weekdays between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. and could cause delays of up to 15 minutes. The Saddlehorn Picnic Area will be closed from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. during the project.

Monument officials say Glade Park residents should consider using Little Park Road as an alternate route.

Weather permitting, the project is expected to conclude in mid-October.
