Ring in 2015 at Steamboat Great Outdoors Ice Fishing Tournament
Get a jumpstart on fishing in 2015 at the 4th annual Steamboat Great Outdoors Ice Fishing Tournament Jan. 4 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Stagecoach State Park.
Co-hosted by Colorado Parks and Wildlife and Steamboat Great Outdoors, the one-day hardwater tournament attracts hundreds of competitors chasing cash prizes and the lake’s big trout.
“I can’t think of a better way to enjoy winter than with some fishing and some good, old-fashioned competition,” Park Manager Craig Preston said. “People have a great time and they catch some really big fish. Plus, it’s for a great cause, and you can’t beat that.”
Part of the proceeds help fund the Oak Creek Fire Corps, a program that enables community members to offer their time and talents to their local fire and EMS department in a non-emergency capacity.
The tournament is limited to the first 200 adults and 50 youth anglers (17 and under that sign-up. Youth can participate for free and win non-cash prizes.
Registration (adults $30, cash only) is at the park the morning of the event.
Only trout species will count, with first through fifth places receiving a prize, based on the total length of two fish.
All current state fishing regulations apply.
All vehicles entering the park must have a $7 daily pass or $70 annual park pass. Passes can be purchased at the park.
