Snowmass hosts clinic for disabled veterans

A disabled veteran takes a quick ride in a sitski during a recent National Disabled Veterans Winter Sports Clinic at Snowmass Ski Resort. This year’s Winter Sports Clinic runs through Friday.

Don’t be giving up on snow sports quite yet.

This week’s Outside Connection takes us to Snowmass Ski Resort for a day at the 24th annual National Disabled Veterans Winter Sports Clinic.

Jointly sponsored by the Department of Veterans Affairs and the Disabled American Veterans and hosted by the Grand Junction VA Medical Center and VA’s Rocky Mountain Network, the week attracts more than 350 disabled veterans from all branches of the military.

It will amaze and impress you what the human body can overcome, with a little help from a strong spirit and the encouragement of friends and strangers.

Come to think of it, someone once said a stranger is simply a friend you haven’t yet met.

Meet a friend this week at the Winter Sports Clinic.

WHAT: The 124th annual National Disabled Veterans Winter Sports Clinic.

WHERE: Snowmass Ski Resort.

WHEN: Through Friday, with activities scheduled all day long.

HOW: Walk through the Snowmass mall and meet veterans or ride the lifts (tickets required) to talk with veterans and watch them ski.
