Snowshoe the mesa for free on Saturday

Daily Sentinel reporters Rachel Sauer, left, and Melinda Mawdsley continue their winter-long outdoor activities quest with a showshoe outing recently on Grand Mesa. Saturday, Cabela’s and Mesa Lake Lodge & Resort are hosting a free “Snowshoe the Grand Mesa” day with demos, lessons and guided tours.

Walk this way to snowshoe fun Saturday on Grand Mesa.

There aren’t many better ways to enjoy winter’s peaceful nature, not to mention the fresh air and possibly getting some much-needed exercise, than taking to the snow-covered expanses of Grand Mesa on snowshoes.

The Grand Junction Cabela’s store and Mesa Lakes Lodge & Resort make it easy to learn, or even relearn, the art of snowshoeing during “Snowshoe the Grand Mesa” from 10:30 a.m. until 3 p.m. Saturday at Mesa Lakes Lodge.

The free event, designed for snowshoers of all levels and experience, includes snowshoe demos and sales. Special guided snowshoe hikes will be conducted at 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 2:30 p.m.

As a friend recently said, “It’s like being the Abdominal Snowman.”
