Teen’s 51-pound grass carp biggest caught in Colorado
Don’t say there’s nothing to do this summer.
Cody Moreland, 14, of Golden lost that argument on June 4 when he caught a 51-pound grass carp from a small lake in Jefferson County.
It turns out the 42-inch fish not only is the biggest grass carp ever registered in Colorado but the biggest fish of any sort.
That’s right. It’s bigger than the 50.35-pound lake trout caught by Donald Walker at Blue Mesa Reservoir in 2007.
What a way to start the summer.
WHAT: A 51-pound grass carp, the largest fish yet caught in Colorado.
WHO: Cody Moreland, 14, from Golden.
WHERE: Prospect Park Lake in Jefferson County.
HOW: Using a Zebco rod and reel and throwing a Rapala Dives-To lure on 14-pound test line.
QUOTE: “Everyone was in awe when I finally landed the fish,” Moreland said. “Even my grandfather was shocked. He just kept saying, ‘Wow, that is the biggest fish I’ve ever seen.’ ”
