This weekend offers free fishing

Easton Tolley of Paria, Utah, and his 5-year-old daughter Jemma share the enjoyment of catching smallmouth bass at Lake Powell. Saturday and Sunday are Colorado’s Free Fishing Weekend, a time to share the joys of fishing with a youngster.

While there aren’t many things in life that truly are free, this week’s Outside Connection comes close.

Saturday and Sunday are the annual Free Fishing Weekend sponsored by the Colorado Division of Wildlife, and it’s free in the sense you won’t need a license.

Bag and possession limits and other regulations will be enforced.

The weekend is aimed at getting more families involved in fishing, which means kids and adults spending time outdoors together.

Some studies suggest that early and successful fishing trips instill the love of fishing for life.

That’s a pretty good deal — a lifetime of fun born on a free weekend.
