Volunteers lend hand to public land

Members of the Western Slope ATV Association are no strangers when it comes to volunteering on public lands. This year alone the group collectively volunteered more than 4,000 hours on public land projects, including this project near Vega in August.

Giving a public hand for public land.

It’s estimated more than 170,000 volunteers will be out giving back to their public lands on Sept. 28, National Public Lands Day.

With more than 2,100 sites across the country hosting NPLD events, it’s easy to find something near you.

Local events include (but are not limited to) a cleanup of the shooting range on 27 1/4 Road north of Grand Junction, coordinated by the Bureau of Land Management, and a sign and trail restoration on Grand Mesa with the Grand Mesa Nordic Council.

The day also is a free-entrance day at most national parks.

Other events will take place throughout the fall.

WHEN: Sept. 28 officially, but events occur throughout the fall.
