Just wanted to say how great the drive-through folks are at the North Avenue McDonald’s. I go through there sometimes up to three mornings a week for breakfast around 6:30 and the folks are very friendly and cheerful.
The JUCO committee could pay for the improvements to the baseball stadium if they would just sell beer at the ballpark. In fact, they would probably have enough left over to pay for a new fire station.
It’s been said how clean and environmentally friendly oil and natural gas are compared to coal. This oil rig that blew up in Louisiana is more devastating environmentally in one instance than all the coal mining that’s ever been done. The scope of damage will be felt for 100 years, if not more.
Turning the oil spill over to the U.S. government is about the dumbest thing I can think of. To think nonexperienced government bureaucrats know enough about deep-water oil drilling and related problems is to believe in the tooth fairy. The right approach is to give BP, with tons of experience, all the help they need in product, ships, manpower, skimmers and support. With BP losing about $420 million a month just in lost oil revenue and all the cleanup costs that they will have to pay, one would have to be naive to think they are not doing all possible and as promptly as possible.
This is directed at the parents who brought their toddler to see “Ironman 2.” Actually, to all parents who bring their baby/toddler to the movies. You have got to be some of the most selfish people on the planet. Could you please find a baby–sitter to watch your child when you decide to go to the movies? That way you can enjoy the movie and so can the others around you who paid a bundle to see it. If you can’t find a sitter, then stay home. From the person who had to “enjoy” the movie while your child screamed in my ear, kicked my chair and yanked on my hair.
I agree that bike riders don’t have to register like vehicles do. But, when you say they are considered pedestrians, that’s not right. If you are in the bike lanes and come to a red light, you can’t just hop on the sidewalk and start crossing like a pedestrian. You need to wait for the light to change to green. Sidewalks are created for walking pedestrians. So if you consider yourself a pedestrian, start walking those bikes on the sidewalks. Otherwise, stay on the street and follow the traffic laws.
Many, many, many thanks to the kind lady who found and turned in my purse after I had hurriedly left it in Sears’ bathroom on May 27. You will certainly be in all my prayers.
We used to be a country of producers. We made stuff, and we could sell it, and people around the world bought it. Now, our most successful don’t make anything; they’re just money handlers.
The single most humorous thing about arguments in religion and politics is that everyone wants you to believe just as they do. Presumptuous, also.
I would love to see the city start an elm tree eradication program. I can’t believe what a mess they make. This year seems worse than previous years. I have one and would gladly get it cut down even though I wouldn’t have any backyard shade, but it doesn’t make sense for me to cut mine down unless everyone else does, too. Meanwhile, I will be pulling up sprouts for weeks. Tip: a large Shop-Vac does a very decent job of removing seeds from your lawn, but it doesn’t work in mulch.
