Youth hunters offered chance at spring turkey hunt

Thanks to support from private landowners, the Colorado Division of Wildlife is offering three youth hunters the opportunity to participate in a private-land spring turkey hunt near Meeker.
The hunt is April 25 and 25. Any interested youth may apply by sending a letter of interest and a short essay (500 words maximum) about hunting to DOW District Wildlife Manager Bailey Franklin at P.O. Box 1181, Meeker, 81641.
The essay should express why hunting is important for wildlife and why the youth desires to be selected for the hunt.
Please include the youth’s name, address, phone number and hunter education card as well as contact information for parent or guardian.
Entries must be postmarked by April 10 and successful applicants will be notified by April 15.
Shotguns, ammunition, blinds and calls will be provided.

Youth shooting leaders sought

• The 4–H Shooting Sports Programs in Mesa, Delta, Montrose and Ouray counties are seeking adult shooting coaches to teach local 4-H shooters the proper methods of safety, marksmanship and responsible use of firearms.
Shooting sports have become one of the most-popular 4–H projects and more teachers are needed. A training session will be held in Delta starting 6 p.m. on Friday and ending at noon on Sunday.  No prior experience in shooting sports is required to participate in the training.
The training fee is $85 and includes all materials, training equipment and supplies and lunch and snacks. Scholarships may be available.
