2010 Color of the Year: Turquoise
Turquoise has a special place in the world of color. It is a color of sympathy and therapy, a color of faith and truth, inspired by sea and sky.
When we close our eyes and think of turquoise, most of us are reminded of tropical utopias where we can escape. These places are friendly and welcoming, if only in our mind’s eye.
Most everyone has an upbeat response to turquoise. Men and women wear it well in fashion whether it is a fine silk blouse or shirt or cool cotton shorts.
You can expect to see it accented on shoes, purses, in hair accessories, ties, scarves, makeup, and nail polish.
Color organizations everywhere are reporting the color to be optimistic with qualities of truth, integrity, openness, and hope — qualities we are all seeking in 2010 to soothe our economic fears, to soothe our feelings of mental exhaustion.
ICI says “This color speaks of hope and clarity — a pure, clean and unpolluted direction for (the) future of our planet; a chance to reclaim possibility and with renewed vigor and energy — the clean new horizon of tomorrow”.
So we say “cheers to turquoise” and to the possibilities it evokes of change, reclaiming, escape to better places, hope, and faith in all things for 2010.
