I’ve driven a lot of vehicles, having done a Test Drive column for nearly a decade for the Coloradoan in Fort Collins, but never in my home town, so it was a great pleasure to try out the brand-new 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe at Ed Bozarth Chevrolet Buick. About as shiny and new as you can get, the 2015 models had just rolled in.

David Davis, sales and leasing associate at Ed Bozarth Chevrolet Buick, took me out to show me around the all-new design.  From the exterior, the new Tahoe is designed for space.  The end result isn’t just a large SUV, but a smartly designed one, too.

“The new design is well-thought out,” Davis said. “It’s a long overdue upgrade, but we’re glad it’s here.”

The base LS model is where the fun starts, but it was surprising to see the level of features that were included even in that ‘base’ model.

Starting from the inside, the Tahoe has fold-flat seats, making it easy to convert from a people-mover to a cargo-carrier.  To even out the floor, and to provide some secure storage, a panel lifts up to reveal a storage compartment behind the back seats, perfect when you’re carrying something sensitive or just for a place for a small tool- or emergency-kit.

Looking forward when the seats are down, you can see multiple 12V power-points, for charging phones, tablets or other electronics that are necessary for play or work.

Heck, there’s even multiple USB ports in the dash, and an SD card slot for music and more.

The electronics lead to the dash and the center-panel control screen, and even more importantly, the driver information center where, with on-steering wheel controls, the driver can control the audio, climate and cruise-control systems and get information about the vehicle including tire pressure, mileage and more.

The automatic rear-camera switches on to give the driver more information while backing up the impressively large Tahoe.

The feature list goes on. Heck, there’s even power seat adjustment for the passenger seat and tri-zone climate control for driver, passenger and rear passengers.

An example of the smart design, the rear windshield wiper is located on a recessed spot underneath the rear air deflector, not only taking it out of view, but making it easier to open the rear glass, and keeping it cleaner so that it will work better when you need it.

To really get a feel for the new Tahoe, though, you’ll need to get it out on the road.  Design enhancements to the suspension and bodywork give this beast of a workhorse quite a purr, to partially mix a metaphor.

The ride is quiet.  Even if I wasn’t enjoying the XM/Sirius satellite radio, there was very little engine or road noise.  Combined with the surprisingly smooth ride even with the body-on-frame construction (read: it’s still a working truck), and it’s easy to overlook how fast you’re going, so be careful.

The 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe LS brings great features to a large, sturdy SUV and provides both workhorse towing capacity and a comfortable, flexible interior. Check out the great ride and smart design for yourself at Ed Bozarth Chevrolet Buick, 2595 Hwy. 6&50.
