5 people escape from fire

Two adults and three children were at home but exited safely during a major house fire Saturday night, according to the Grand Junction Fire Department.

The home at 300 S. Redlands Road is considered a total loss after burning to the ground about 7 p.m.

An emergency call was dispatched at 6:21 p.m. of flames fully engulfing the home. By the time firefighters arrived seven minutes later, the flames mostly had consumed the home, causing firefighters to battle the blaze defensively, the Fire Department said.

The department has not determined a dollar estimate of the damage.

The blaze is under investigation.
