Fire battled south of Moab

Firefighters made progress on a lightning-caused fire burning about 30 miles east of Moab, Utah.

The 438-acre Sinbad Fire was smoldering Saturday, according to the Manti-La Sal National Forest.

Fire spokeswoman Karen Feary said the blaze was 51 percent contained on Saturday.

“Tomorrow we’ll be monitoring it and mopping up,” she said. “It’s winding down quite a bit.”

Fire officials hope to contain the blaze by Tuesday. No structures are threatened and the fire is burning on steep, rugged terrain on Sinbad Ridge, fire officials said. The blaze started July 7.
