Temptation exists. Sometimes it exists in the form of a car. The 2017 Dodge Charger invites you to give in, but I’ll let you in on a secret: temptation, isn’t necessarily bad for you.
I know it’s tempting, because I (wanting to show off a bit), visited a friend of mine to invite her along on the Test Drive. She demurred, needing to be at work shortly, but, since I was in the parking lot of her apartments, she decided she’d come out and take a peek.
Once outside, she decided to at least sit in it. “That’s a cool looking car,” she said. “And you fit in it!” she said.
At 6’10” that’s a rare accomplishment - even more so with performance cars.  The Charger is roomy (its sister car, the Challenger is even more to my knees’ delight).
Inside, it was too much to resist when I said “We could just drive it around the block…”
She didn’t even check her watch. “Well, it would be a shame not to.”
The spacious interior featured special accents and a leather-wrapped steering wheel from the Blacktop Appearance Group (which adds a spoiler, enhanced fascia, decals and painted aluminum wheels and more).  One of my favorite additions is the Uconnect touchscreen’s enhanced styling, with red and white colors and a hexagonal performance pattern that I’ve only seen in Dodge performance vehicles. It really adds a stylish kick in a place that tends to get over-looked.  The style continues on the digital and physical elements of the gauge panel.
On the road, she was glad she came along. The 3.6 liter V6 engine might have been less exciting after driving some with larger engines, but truthfully, it was still an exciting drive, pushing me into the seat with exciting force.  Stopping was just as exciting (if maybe a little scary for my friend…), the brakes just railed the Charger to a stop from highway speeds with nary a pull.  In fact, on the outlier street we were on, we far overestimated the distance needed and was able to do it again!
On the way back, we decided to take a side street we’d never been down, and I swung a fast U-turn in a quiet and wide part of the street. The charger swung tight and easy, and then pushed neatly out from the turn from the rear wheels.
While rear wheel drive makes most Coloradans squint their eyes a bit, this Charger comes with all-wheel drive, switching power around the wheels to make sure you have traction for performance or weather.
My friend made it easily to work on time (it’s a speedy car, after all- I did offer to drive her there, but she politely declined, something about needing to get back home again afterwards).
This all-wheel drive muscle car with plenty of room, cool technology and the push on the road to bring a smile to your face comes in reasonably at around $34.8k, definitely worth that spin around the block to check it out.
Give in to your temptation to enjoy this cool car. The 2017 Dodge Charger SXT AWD is on the pavement now at Grand Junction Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram, west of First Street to the north off of North Avenue.
