Where did you grow up?
I grew up in the San Juan Mountains in the town of Lake City, just a few hours from Grand Junction. I attended Gunnison High School and Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas.
My husband is Robb Reece, a GJ native, and we have two amazing children, Zenon, 8, and Sofi, 6. My brother and his family also live in GJ, and my mom still lives in Lake City, along with many other relatives.
What do you enjoy most about living in the Grand Junction area?
I love the size of the Grand Valley community — after living in a very small town, and also some very big cities, I think I found the perfect fit. I also love that I can run on the trails year round, and get to either the high country or some desolate desert canyons in under an hour. Running, skiing, cycling, mountain climbing, rafting, and camping are how we spend our family time, and we can’t think of a place that has better options than the Grand Valley.
How long have you worked in real estate?
I earned my license in 1992, learning from my father who was a Realtor, specializing in ranch properties across the West. My mom also owned a title company, so I grew up around the business. I chose to work at Bray Real Estate because Robert Bray runs his company the way my father ran his — with honesty, integrity, and a sense of family.
What would you consider your specialty?
My team specializes in residential home sales. I complete hundreds of home valuations every year so that I am keeping up to date on the most recent market data and providing the most current information to my clients. We also tour properties every week on the Bray Bus so we know the inventory. Bonnie Heinsma works as a buyer specialist on our team. Our client care specialist, Brooke Soell, helps us to keep things running smoothly.
Do you have any accreditations or certifications?
I am proud to be a Certified Residential Specialist, a designation held by only 3 percent of Realtors in the country. CRS provides rigorous education and training, and I think it’s the best around. I am also an Accredited Buyer Representative, a Certified Negotiation Expert, an EcoBroker, and a Realtor. I am the education director for the local Board of Realtors, and I believe consistent continuing education is important in maintaining the skills necessary to do the best job for my clients.
What is the most challenging/ gratifying aspect of what you do?
I still believe real estate is one of the best investments in which you can put your money. I am proud to own my own home, and consider it a privilege. Owning a home was a dream of mine, and so I enjoy helping others fulfill their dreams of homeownership, from first time home buyers to investors.
What is the most unique property you’ve ever listed or sold?
I listed and sold a Paolo Soleri-designed home with round, concrete walls (interior and exterior), composting toilet, and a castle turret.
What is one tip you have for someone looking to buy a home today?
Don’t miss out on the great interest rates we are still enjoying. Understand your purchasing power and how things will change for you when rates and/or prices go up. Work with an agent who will scour the market to find you what you are looking for — we will. There are still some great buys out there.
What is one tip you have for someone looking to sell a home today?
Understand that it is the current pool of home buyers that determines the value of your home. I work together with my sellers to determine where to position their home in the marketplace to reach their desired goal, but a home is only worth what someone is willing to pay, no matter what the comps tell us.
What do you see in the future of real estate sales/prices?
I expect that we will have a very active 2014, with prices appreciating at a slow and steady pace. That will be good for our market, as some other areas like Denver are already talking about a bubble again.
