ComAct Housing Corporation
ComAct Housing is organized to make housing available to low income people ($15,000.00 - $38,400.00) in Mesa County, Colorado and to establish and coordinate programs that promote the greatest and most efficient use of housing for the targeted people. The corporation solicits and receives funds and property for the above purpose from any source, by gift, or otherwise to provide housing for low income people.
ComAct Housing Corporation began operations in 1968 within the Mesa County Community Action Program, in 1971 became an independent non-profit corporation. Agustin (Augie) Reyes served as the 1st Director. Initial funding came from Community Action, and after 1971, from donations from scores of individual and local savings and loan companies. The City of Grand Junction, Mesa County, and the State Division of Housing provided some grants. Currently the corporation has assets in excess of $1.75 Million. Approximately 190 families have received financing to obtain a home since the corporation began operating (44 years ago).
Since its inception, unpaid volunteers and one part-time director have operated ComAct Housing.
